Viewfinder Photographic Society Presents: ‘Dingle, My Only Place’ by John Hooton, Monday 19th April 2021, 7.00pm via Zoom

We’re delighted to welcome Irish landscape photographer, John Hooton on Monday, 19th April for his presentation entitled; ‘Dingle, My Only Place’.

John has been taking photographs, primarily of the west coast of Ireland, for nearly 40 years. His main love is the Dingle Peninsula with its wide variety of rugged landscapes and roaring seas, offering perfect locations for both sunrise and sunset.

John is a Fellow of the Irish Photographic Federation, a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and has a Masters from the International Federation of Photographic Art. His work has been exhibited throughout Ireland, the UK mainland, Europe and the USA. He has lectured extensively over a number of years and has had several photographic lecture tours in the UK.

Over the years John has self-published three books. The first two ‘Gathering Light on the Dingle Coast’ and ‘Dingle, My Only Place’ both contain landscape images from the Dingle Peninsula. His third book ‘Ireland, The Way We Were’ takes a look at old abandoned houses that he has found mainly around the West Kerry area and offers the reader an opportunity to see how people lived in years gone by.

Assisted by his wife, Noreen, John also runs photographic weekends from his base in Ballyferriter, West Kerry, introducing participants to numerous locations throughout the peninsula and also giving an extensive insight into his own work.

In the past, John worked mainly with slide film and transitioned to digital about ten years ago. He still does all of his own printing. John is passionate about the landscape and preserving it for future generations. He loves nothing more than spending a few hours on location waiting for that perfect shot and sharing images through his presentations.

If you would like to join John and the Viewfinder Photographic Society for this presentation, tickets cost £5.00 each. A Zoom link will be emailed to you a few days before the session commences.
