Simon Baxter: ‘Beyond the Trees’

For our final Zoom session this year we welcome ‘woodland photographer’ Simon Baxter, Simon is a professional photographer from North Yorkshire and “the first woodland photographer on YouTube”. His passion is to explore, discover, experience and photograph the less obvious intimate scenes that are close to home.

His presentation, ‘Beyond the Trees’, is a journey through how Simon thinks and feels about the trees and woodlands he loves to photograph. From seeking solace in nature to being inspired by science, Simon’s talk will offer insights to stir your imagination and inspire a new way of seeing trees.

Simon’s affinity with woodland stems from his childhood years when he used to spend the summer holidays building dens from fallen branches in the local forest. Throughout his teens and twenties he was a passionate mountain biker, tearing through the same forest and over the North York Moors. His urge to explore areas close to home has never dwindled. Simon now spends many hours, always with his dog, Meg, wandering through obscure woodland in search of that next standout tree or simply to soak up the calming atmosphere and enjoy the company of wildlife.
