It is with some sadness that I have to report the death of a friend and Honorary Life Member of Wakefield Camera Club; John Bickerdike ARPS DPAGB.
John passed away on May 20th. His funeral is scheduled to take place at Wakefield Crematorium at 12.40pm on Wednesday 12th of June 2024. Ironically, that is just one day before his 92nd birthday.
John joined Wakefield CC in 2004 and, by February 2005, was Vice President. In 2007, having gained his LRPS, he took on the task of Competition Secretary. In 2008 John was elected President of WCC and one of our Yorkshire Photographic Union (YPU) representatives. By 2009 John had achieved his ARPS and a DPAGB award. In 2011 John stepped down from the President’s post and was unanimously elected Honorary Life Member.
John also became a YPU judge and helped out with the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) at the Media Museum in Bradford and with the refurbishment of Wentworth.
Just as importantly as the above, John was a gentleman. He could always be relied on to help others and give guidance with anything photographic. Many of our members will remember his ability to explain the finer details of taking/making a picture. He was never too busy to offer a helping hand.
