RPS Northern Region: Joe Cornish, HonFRPS: A Landscape Photographer’s Story; 21st June 2025, 2:00pm; Acklam Green Centre

The RPS Northern Region is delighted to present a talk by the renowned local photographer, Joe Cornish.

A working photographer since 1980, Joe Cornish is based in North Yorkshire and has devoted the last three decades of his career to landscape photography, especially in the North of England and Scotland. His work is divided between large-scale commissions and books, and workshops.

Through the last decade, he has also travelled frequently in the polar regions and this has become an important inspiration for his personal work as well as informing his environmental writing.

His landscape photography translates a sense of connection with the natural world through texture and colour, space and light. Joe is a renowned thinker on the role of photography with a strong emphasis on the global environment.

He has written countless articles, many appearing in “on landscape” (an online magazine for photographers), which he helped to cofound.

An honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, he was the first Chair of the Landscape Distinction Panel. Recent books include: Scotland’s Mountains; Scotland’s Coast; The Northumberland Coast; This Land: Capability Brown; Humphry Repton; Woodland Sanctuary (with Simon Baxter); Still Time to Wonder (on Fountains Abbey).

The event takes place at the Acklam Green Centre, Stainsby Road, Acklam, Middlesbrough TS5 4JS, on 21 June at 2.00pm.
