You are warmly invited to join us at BCC for our next meeting via zoom on Tuesday 3 May at 7.30pm, where we will be joined by Nils Jorgensen for the evening.
Nils hails originally from Denmark but was educated in England. He studied photography at the West Surrey College of Art and Design. He has worked as a press photographer in London and abroad since 1981. Nils has a personal passion for Street Photography and views this as the purest form of photography; ‘the photographer, the camera and the vision‘. Nils specialises in candid, unstaged images capturing the joy, sadness and peculiarity all around us in everyday life.
The title of his talk ‘It doesn’t Matter Where You Are’ reflects the fact that there are photographic opportunities to be found everywhere if you keep your eyes open and your camera ready. Of course it helps if, like Nils, you have a keen eye and impeccable timing for the ‘critical moment’. Expect shapes, symmetry, juxtaposition and a keen sense of humour. In keeping with the spontaneity associated with Street Photography, Nils’ images are presented ‘as taken’ with only minimal editing to correct colour and contrast.
In 2002 Nils was invited to join the online street photography collective iN-PUBLiC a group that exists to promote Street Photography and to explore its possibilities. He has won awards and exhibited in the UK, Austria and America. Besides his Press Photography, his work has been extensively published including in ‘Street Photography Now’, ‘The World Atlas of Street Photography’ and ‘The Street Photographer’s Manual’ and his work has been acquired by the Museum of London.
