The lockdowns of 2020 led many to explore the delights of flower and still life photography – forced as we were to look for subjects indoors. The control required over composition and lighting provided a liberating challenge – allowing the photographer to show their creativity in emphasising aspects of the subject or creating a particular atmosphere in the final image.
With this in mind, it is our great pleasure to welcome a true master of this art as our next speaker at Kirkbymoorside Camera Club. Polina Plotnikova creates immersive images of a range of subjects, through the use of subtle lighting, meticulous composition, and creative lens choices.
Her flower studies are approached in the manner of a portrait – exploring each flower’s unique look, studying its mood and character, to ultimately unlock its essential beauty. Polina’s aim is not to create a botanical image, nor capture her subject in it’s natural habitat, but rather to produce a creative image inspired by the characteristics of each flower.
In this highly practical talk, Polina will also guide us through her process for creating still life compositions – which begins with an image in her mind’s eye, and proceeds to taking photographs only after all the details have been thought through. Schematic illustrations will show her studio hardware, and demonstrate the various stages of putting together a still life setup.
Join us via Zoom to hear more about Polina’s techniques, and find more of her work on her website at www.polinaplotnikova.com, on Facebook, and at @photoartitude on Instagram. Guests are welcome to join the Zoom session for a small admin fee. Book your place now at:
