The Viewfinder Photographic Society is looking forward to welcoming its next speaker on 3rd March, landscape photographer Huibo Hou, who will be joining live from San Diego, USA via Zoom.
Huibo’s distinctive style has led to numerous awards, speaking engagements and features in a range of publications, including the Monochrome Awards International Black & White Photography Contest, International Landscape Photographer of the Year, Sony World Photography Awards, Elements Photo Magazine, Nature Photographers Network and On Landscape Magazine.
Huibo fell in love with photography well over 20 years ago as a hobbyist while working in the wireless communication industry. Then life took her in different directions and she had to set aside her pursuit of photography for quite some time. In early 2015, her love of photography was rekindled and she gradually became more serious about the craft. Huibo says “Landscape photography, especially in black and white, is the artistic medium that I’m passionate about. It serves as my creative outlet to express how I observe, interpret, and connect with nature.”
Black and white photography has a timeless appeal and can often touch viewers at a more profound level. Some landscape photographers may find it difficult to work without colour. In the first half of her talk, Huibo will delve into the development of one’s personal vision, drawing from her own evolution in B&W landscape photography. In the second half, she will explore various compositional and tonal control techniques, including her post-processing flow, with the aim of improving one’s vision of seeing and editing in black and white.
